Title
PGSS Gendered and Sexual Violence Policy
Description
In 2020, the Post-Graduate Student Society of McGill implemented their own Gendered and Sexual Violence Policy (GSVP). This policy enables graduate students to access support and address sexual violence within the PGSS context. While McGill and the Students' Society of McGill University (SSMU) have their own policies and offer services to support survivors' academic and health needs, these services are often inaccessible for graduate students. These services also do not cover graduate students who are working as teaching assistants or invigilators. As the PGSS website states, the goal of the PGSS policy is "to offer a new service to all McGill graduate and postdoctoral students by simplifying navigation of already existing resources on campus and in the Montreal community." One of the main actions of the policy was to establish a new position within PGSS: the Anti-Violence Coordinator. The AVC provides a confidential, non-directional service for survivors to help them navigate McGill's bureaucracy and its sexual violence policy, as well as other resources on campus available to students.
