Title

SSMU Legislative Council Passes Divest for Human Rights Motion

Description

During the SSMU Winter 2021 General Assembly on February 16, students debated the Divest for Human Rights Policy, which calls for McGill to divest from companies linked to systemic violence. Controversy arose around divestment from companies involved in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Despite passing in the General Assembly, a loss of quorum required the motion to be referred to the Legislative Council, where it was later approved after further discussion.
