Last year, the official t-shirts for Management Frosh even read "What do you want to drink today?" in a font similar to the Microsoft ad slogan "Where do you want to go today?". , However,StudentSocietyof McGill University (SSMU)Frosh Co-ordinators Cheryl Rosebush and Jawad H. Qureshi claim that this reputalion, while perhaps true in the past , no longer represents the Frosh program accurately. The more involved selection and training process for leaders is one of the key changes in this years SSMU program. "I knew coming in that what makes a Frosh program is the leaders, " notes Rosebush. "We tried to bring out the cream of studen ts as Frosh leade rs," adds Qures hi , "If they're drunk and passing out, received, unfortunately, not beer but shots of Sambuca only after producing 2 bras, 2 pairs of boxer shorts and one condom from among the group. Another issue not often considered is the image of McGill that Frosh week puts forth to the city as a whole. Their behavior is often considered disruptive and obnoxious. Au conseil administratif de l’AÉFA, le VP événements Josh Greenberg s’estime satisfait des retombées du Frosh sur les relations publiques, même si la police a été très présente dans le ghetto. Plusieurs raisons peuvent expliquer l’augmentation de la popularité de ces propositions parallèles. De plus les Frosh alternatifs sont Musulman Student Association Alors que la semaine d’intégration se finit à McGill, on enregistre plusieurs changements. Le Frosh est traditionnellement une série d’événements plus ou moins alcoolisés qui permettent aux nouveaux étudiants de se retrouver dans leur faculté et de rencontrer d’autres McGillois. Cette année, les Frosh des Facultés se sont associés au Frosh de l’AÉUM de sorte que les événements organisés par l’AÉUM alternaient avec ceux des facultés. Alors que les organisateurs essayent manifestement de faire en sorte que la cohésion des froshies soit plus importante, on assiste en même temps au bourgeonnement de multiples Frosh alternatifs, notamment des Frosh religieux. Tout d’abord, même si les Frosh des Facultés essayent de s’éloigner tant bien que mal de leur tradition de la boisson, une ambiance hypersexualisée et alcoolisée existe réellement, ce qui chif fonne certains éléments du campus. Du coup, la vie mcgilloise se scinde en deux: ceux qui tolèrent ou adhèrent à cette idée et ceux qui l’exècrent. Les leaders étaient prévenus qu’aucune chanson paillarde ou nom vulgaire inscrit sur les tee-shirts ne serait toléré. Pourtant, dès le deuxième jour, les coordonnateurs de l’organisation du Frosh de la Faculté des Arts ont dû rappeler les consignes par courriel. «Si vos froshies ont des messages grossiers sur leurs tee-shirts, veuillez leur demander de les porter à l’envers». Justine Perrot, la coordonnatrice externe de ce même Frosh, a rappelé: «Il faut que l’administration et la communauté environnante soient un tant soit peu contentes afin de ne pas détruire le Frosh pour les années à venir». beaucoup moins chers: 60 dollars pour Rad Frosh, 35 dollars pour le Frosh musulman et jusqu’à 20 dollars pour le Fish Frosh. Une broutille comparée aux 140 dollars demandés pour participer au Arts Frosh. Enfin, les nouveaux venus se retrouvent en plus petits groupes, ce qui est moins intimidant par rapport aux milliers de participants qu’accueillent les Frosh mainstream. En fin de compte, c’est sûr: ces Frosh alternatifs sont attirants, conviennent mieux aux besoins de certains et permettent à chacun de se sentir à l’aise. Mais s’il est clair qu’il est rassurant au sortir du secondaire de se retrouver avec des gens qui partagent le même passé, x le délit · le mardi 11 septembre 2012 · delitfrancais.com est-ce là le but de l’université? De rester confiné dans ses propres idées? Le Rad Frosh est un événement organisé par le GRIP-McGill, mais les froshies ne connaissent pas nécessairement les opinions politiques du groupe de recherche, celles-ci n’étant pas affichées clairement dans leur invitation à l’événement. Est-ce que le fait de participer au Rad Frosh fait aveuglément adhérer le nouveau venu au mouvement sans qu’il ait accès aux opinions opposées? En fin de compte, au lieu d’être une semaine d’intégration à la communauté mcgilloise dans son ensemble, la semaine d’orientation est devenue l’occasion pour chacun de s’intégrer dans une communauté qui lui ressemble. Des Frosh plus près des valeurs de chacun et qui facilitent l’intégration des membres au sein de leur communauté, mais pas au sein de l’école. Alors que les organisateurs travaillent sur l’intégration individuelle, que dire des communautés de plus en plus isolées? Pour la première fois un Frosh pour la communauté juive, le Getilfe Frosh, est institutionnalisé. Genesis, une étudiante mexicaine qui a participé au Fish Frosh il y a deux ans, par tage son expérience: «Le Fish Frosh correspondait à ce que je voulais, mais les gens que j’ai rencontrés durant ces trois jours, je les aurais croisés de toutes façons à la messe. J’ai l’impression de ne pas connaître le McGillois moyen». De son côté, Nicolas, U3, confesse avoir participé aux soirées organisées par la FSC (French Student Community) lors de son entrée à l’université, et, depuis, ne côtoyer que des Français. Il témoigne: «J’ai tellement regretté de ne pas avoir rencontré d’anglophones en première année que j’ai été leader l’an- née d’après». D’autres universités, comme Concordia, proposent des Frosh moins importants, mais qui rassemblent leurs étudiants lors d’événements qui conviennent à la grande majorité, comme des concerts. De cette façon, tout le monde est rassemblé et a une occasion de se retrouver. Certains, comme Louis, en troisième année d’histoire, pensent qu’en faisant les activités proposées par le Frosh avec la résidence on obtient plus un sens de communauté. Victor, élève de quatrième année, confirme: «Les Frosh de Faculté, c’est normal mais la multiplication des Frosh alternatifs: ça, c’est de la vrai polarisation. Comme si on avait besoin de ça après les événements de l’an dernier». En fin de compte, ces nouveaux Frosh alternatifs permettent à un plus grand nombre d’étudiants de sentir qu’ils font partie d’une communauté, mais il faut se poser la question de la croissante polarisation du campus à laquelle on a assisté l’an dernier. On se rappelle les affrontements entre «carrés blancs», «rouges» et «verts»… Une politisation du campus est inévitable, et même souhaitable, mais une telle polarisation est dangereuse pour la cohabitation pacifique de toutes les communautés au sein de l’école. Si chaque nouvel arrivant se retrouve directement avec des gens partageant ses idéaux, n’y a-t-il a pas un risque d’extrémisation hâtive?
